Where to Pop the Question…In St. Lucia

Saint Lucia’s stunning scenery inspires romance, so here are some great location ideas on where to propose!

Floating above a coral reef: Saint Lucia is as beautiful under the water as it is above thanks to the healthy coral reefs that fringe the island. Colorful corals paired with clear water make favorite dive spots like Fairyland the ideal location for a submarine proposal with sea turtles and tropical fish serving as witnesses. The close proximity of the reef to the shore means a dive off the beach at locations like Anse Chastanet can be followed by a champagne toast onshore.

On the summit of a Piton: Tell clients to take advantage of a shared sense of accomplishment with a proposal atop the 2,619-ft. Gros Piton—the larger of Saint Lucia’s twin Piton mountains. At the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens: Romantic spots to dazzle with an engagement ring abound at Diamond Falls, including the 55-ft. waterfall, naturally fed mineral baths where visitors can turn the temperature of their romance to more than 100, and well-tended botanical gardens with paths leading to quaint arched bridges, ponds, and sitting areas.

On the Tet Paul Trail: Couples who don’t feel up to summiting the Pitons can get the next best thing on the Tet Paul Scenic Trail, a comparatively easier hike that passes through working farms and traditional island homes on the way to viewpoints with close-up vantages of Mount Gimme, the island’s high point. The roundtrip up the “Stairway to Heaven” to an observation deck proposal can take less than an hour—more if toasts, photos, and kisses are included, of course.

During a sunset cruise: Charter a catamaran for a sunset sail for an ideal opportunity to propose a lasting union as the sun slides under the horizon. Couples can take a romantic sunset cruise aboard a traditional wooden Carriacou sloop; opt for a private charter to secluded beaches; or they can book passage on a sunset snorkel cruise to the Pitons.

Couples can charter a boat for the sail past the Pitons, tie up at a mooring in the bay, get engaged, and celebrate onboard or onshore at one of the small village’s waterfront restaurants.

On a whale-watching trip: Whales migrate past Saint Lucia between mid-November and June, offering opportunities to combine the majestic beauty of nature with a life-changing proposal. Cruises go three miles out in the open ocean off the town of Soufriere to see humpback, sperm, and pilot whales and dolphins — the latter a symbol of good luck.
